If you enjoy Hearts of Iron III, you may also enjoy the other Paradox games of this "generation", Crusader Kings II and Victoria II. Once you enter the military campaign, you will be clinging onto every pirce of data as if your life depended on it. Its much more than a simple strategy game. You may enjoy it (or at least the first entry or so) as a way of learning a factoid or two about the game. The maps, graphics, scenarios and the atmosphere that envelopes everything in Hearts of Iron 3 will have you hooked straight away. Shameless self-plug - I wrote a Let's Play of Hearts of Iron III on this very forum. But after you get over the hill, the game has excellent depth, complexity (in a good way), and replay value. The difficulty curve is harsh, and most of your fun will be had after the first hours of absorbing data. Please note - there are some games that I would dearly love to replay from scratch, to revel in learning about game content for the first time again. You can go for a neutral state in, say, South America and try conquering a neighbour or two (before the US murders you, but don't worry about that in your first game), or go for the United States on the basis that you have a few years to learn the system, and might get involved in the war later if you feel like it.ĭon't worry about some of the complex stuff, you can stick to Political Mapmode and just attack people smaller than you to get used to the war system. Just get used to the system, construct a few units, learn new tech, get a feel for trade and diplomacy, espionage, and politics.
